The NeverTrump conservatives delight in calling themselves “principled conservatives” and “Constitutional conservatives.” The implication is that if you disagree with them you’re unprincipled and don’t believe in the Constitution. These same people don’t know the history of the movement they claim to speak for. In today’s episode we begin debunking their narrative with a look at the history of American conservatism and the competing strands of thought that have made up the conservative movement. This is the first in a multi-party series. Strap yourself in for a graduate level course in American political history.
