Mitt Romney is the kind of Republican Democrats love. He’s become one of Hillary’s chief campaign surrogates in attacking Donald Trump from within the Republican Party. Romney renewed his attacks yesterday using the same unfair line of attack used against him by Harry Reid in 2012. The difference is that Romney was vigorously defended by other Republicans. Romney returns the favor by doing Hillary’s dirty work for her.
Now Romney, who is being courted by the Weekly’s Standard’s Bill Kristol, to either run as a third party candidate against Donald Trump (not against Hillary Clinton mind you) or to support a third party candidate, is using Harry Reid’s dirty tricks to attack his own party’s nominee. Nice guy.
This is the same Romney who conservatives supported to the hilt in 2012, despite the fact that he designed the blueprint for Obamacare with his Romneycare in Massachusetts – something he never repudiated. And he’s the same guy whose campaign surrogates were telling left-leaning audiences just weeks before the election that a Romney-appointed justice to the Supreme Court would never vote to overturn Roe v. Wade. Not exactly a Goldwater conservative – or a Reagan conservative for that matter.
But that runs in the family. Mitt is the son of former Governor of Michigan George Romney who represented the liberal wing of the Republican Party in 1964 and fought hard against Barry Goldwater, the party’s conservative nominee. George Romney even led a walkout of Goldwater’s acceptance speech and refused to support his campaign, thus helping elect liberal Democrat Lyndon Johnson. Sound familiar? Apparently working against the Republican nominee when you don’t get your way is a Romney family tradition.
