Is Donald Trump a prophet? No. But he did what too many elites won’t. He saw the unchecked rise of radical Islam in Europe. He looked at the parlous state of Europe’s defenses, hobbled by feckless leaders and political correctness. He looked at the Paris attack. He looked at unchecked immigration to Europe from Syria, the home of ISIS. He looked at all of these things and he realized that another horrific attack could not be far off.
In an interview with Maria Bartiromo on Fox Business back in January (full video below) Trump said the following:
“There is something going on, Maria. Go to Brussels. Go to Paris. Go to different places. There is something going on and it’s not good, where they want Shariah law, where they want this, where they want things that — you know, there has to be some assimilation. There is no assimilation. There is something bad going on.”
But then Mr. Trump got specific. He remembered a time in Europe before mass immigration, before the rise of radical Islam in the West, before terror attacks left bodies in the streets on a regular basis. He remembered a time when these attacks were unacceptable to Europe’s leaders – before they have become just another price to pay for the illusion of stability. He went on,
“You go to Brussels — I was in Brussels a long time ago, 20 years ago, so beautiful, everything is so beautiful — it’s like living in a hellhole right now.”
Reacting to the interview, the New York Times wrote a story about Trump’s talk with Bartiromo. They ran their story with the headline “Donald Trump Finds A New City To Insult: Brussels.” It would be black comedy in retrospect were Mr. Trump not so prescient and the attacks so deadly. But Trump saw something that the Times missed – as usual. And now there is a bloody butcher’s bill to pay. 34 are dead and the smart set that couldn’t see it coming is wondering what to do. Donald Trump can’t see the future, but he can see the unpleasant reality of radical Islam and call it by it’s name. And he can see the cowardly European leaders and realize that their will be a price to pay for their folly. Shortly after the attacks Trump told Fox News,
“It’s going to get worse and worse. In my opinion, this is just the beginning. It will get worse and worse because we are lax and we are foolish…”
Let’s hope someone is listening this time.
